Peace website launch on Sept 9

The latest development in the peace process, including background information and its history are detailed in the 'Peace in Sri Lanka' Website launched by the Prime Minister's Office - Secretariat for Co-ordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP). 'The Peace in Sri Lanka'-Website, being launched just before the peace talks in Thailand, can be accessed on www.peaceinsrilanka.org Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will officially launch the Website on Monday (September 9) at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.

The Secretariat for Co-ordinating the Peace Process is also establishing an e-mail database, to disseminate further information on the peace process.

Among the main items featured in the Website are: an explanation of the mandate of the Secretariat for Co-ordinating the Peace Process, basic facts and figures about Sri Lanka, background information on the conflict tracing its history, texts of formal agreements dealing with the peace process, introduction to other agencies contributing to the peace process with links to their Websites, a bulletin board and press releases issued by SCOPP, and news articles on the peace process from local and international sources, which will be updated on a daily basis.

There will also be an illustrated calendar of events.A special feature on the 'Peace in Sri Lanka' Website is a picture board with photographs from the archives, as well as recent photographs of important events in the peace process. These photographs will be especially useful for journalists.

The 'Peace in Sri Lanka' Website will feature a section called 'Your Views'. Visitors to the Website will be able to post their comments in this section.
