Genesiis Software - an established Colombo based software company has released Skills DB - a software package developed for the human resources/recruitment sector. It can be used by any business that deals with large volumes of people, such as recruitment and consulting companies, and labour export agencies, a company press release said.The system developed by Genesiis can fully computerise and streamline the recruitment business by creating a computer database for people that focuses on skills, abilities and a comprehensive list of personal details.

By using the system, employment agencies and recruitment companies can save time and effort by quickly locating the best people for a job specification or tender.

Anuksha Sri Nammuni of RDC Consultants Ltd., which is currently using the Genesiis system to manage their pool of 2,500 personnel and qualified consultants said: "We have a large number of people on our books, and it was impossible to locate the best person to match a job specification. We mainly used our memory or knowledge of a person's abilities, or manually and laboriously searched through our files. But this was not the best way, as we get many new applications every day. With the Genesiis software system it took us only two weeks to computerise our files. This is because the system is very quick and easy to use. Now in just seconds we can search, locate and choose the best person for a project. We are thrilled with the system and even the foreign companies we work with are resorting to it."

A key feature of the Genesiis system is the multi-level classification of a person's skills. For example, an Accountant can also be classified as an Auditor, or a Book-Keeper. With this system each agency can customise the classification to suit their area of recruitment. For the apparel/garment industry, an example would be a Machine Operator with Single-Needle experience; the hospitality industry can classify an Executive Chef working at the level of a Chef Garmange.

The Genesiis system also maintains the following information areas about a person: work experience, qualifications, training, language skills, as well as an extensive set of personal details such as age, gender, experience, passport details, addresses, contact details, salary and the grading or assessment done by the agency.

The most useful feature of the system is the ability to search across all the information kept on a person. Azam Hussain Sallie, Software Engineer at Genesiis said: "Recruitment agencies find it extremely useful to do a specific search, like finding a cook with five years cold kitchen experience, who is single, has worked previously in the Middle East, and speaks a foreign language. Because it is such a competitive business, the first to respond to a job specification gets the contract. Our clients like this system because it gives them a competitive edge."

Sallie said, "The system is also affordable for large and small recruitment firms as pricing depends on the number of people to be managed. The entry level cost is only Rs. 30,000. As the system works on every Windows platform from 98 to XP, where the minimum hardware configuration is a Pentium II with 64 MB of memory, no further spending is necessary on expensive hardware. The software is client-server, can be networked, and is developed entirely using modern Open Source tools."
