Navy Chief complains of threat to his life by Ranil Wijayapala Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri has informed Defence Minister Tilak Marapana of a threat to his life as his residence had been photographed by unknown men who came on a motorbike while he was in Boston to attend a Defence seminar. Commander Sandagiri told the Daily News last night that he informed the Defence Minister through his personnel staff. His wife told him about the incident when he was in Boston. He said he considered his private residence in Kumbal Oluva, Veyangoda as a safe place. He does not take any personnel security guards to the residence. The Security officer of the residence, after being informed by the neighbours about the surveillance, has complained to the Veyangoda Police, the Commander added. Initial police investigations have revealed that the motorbike which was used by the photographers was bearing civil numbers. Further investigations have revealed that it was a Yamaha motorbike belonging to the Navy, he added. The Commander said the Veyangoda Police are conducting investigations into the incident. "I have also directed Navy investigators to probe the incident." The Navy Commander was granted a three year service extension by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. He arrived in the country yesterday after attending a two-week defence seminar in Boston. |
