Rubber Corp fraud: P.B. quizzed

The Criminal Investigation Department yesterday recorded a lengthy statement from PERC Chairman P.B. Jayasundera with regard to the massive fraud at the Sri Lanka Rubber Manufacturing and Export Corporation (SLRMEC).

Jayasundera was the former Secretary to the Treasury.

The SLRMEC former Chairman Sarath Wickremasinghe, Accountant Ms. V.G. Delduwa and factory Manager Upul Nanda Munasinghe had been remanded in connection with the alleged massive fraud in the Corporation till September 9 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Priyantha Fernando.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigating the fraud revealed that Rs.2.5 million had been used to purchase lands from various parts in the country to set up factories. But not a single deed is available in respect of the Corporation, the CID officials said.
