Top prices at Tea Auctions

Kirkoswald Group, Bogawantalawa continued to obtain top prices for teas produced when it fetched Rs. 390 for a kilogram Pekoe 1 which set up an all time record price for this grade of tea for the region at the tea auctions held on August 28, 2002 sold through Forbes & Walkers Ltd.

This all time high price of Rs. 390 by Kirkoswald Group for Western Region broke its own record of Rs. 370 per kilo set up at the tea auctions held on July 31, 2002. This also got the top price of Rs. 214 for Dust No. 1 at the same auctions.

But the highest price for high grown teas went to Aislaby Group, Bandarawela which sold a line of Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) for Rs. 440 per kilogram and Uva Highlands estate sold a line of Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings (BOPF) for Rs. 405 and both these prices topped the prices for the respective grades for High and Medium Grown teas at the auctions held on August 28. Uva Highlands Estate also sold a line of Pekoe for Rs. 430 which was the highest for this grade of tea for the Uva Region.

Both Uva Highlands Estate and Aislaby Group are owned by Malwatte Valley Plantations Limited.
