Seetha Devi Balika win Mayor's Cup hockey tourney

Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy, once again proved their supremacy at hockey when they won their seventh hockey title for the year by defeating Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy 2 - 0 to become champions at the Kandy Mayors Cup girls under 19 all island seven-a-side hockey tournament for the Kesaralal Senanayake challenge shield in the finals played at Police grounds, Kandy. At half time Seetha Devi led 1 - 0. This tournament was organised by the Kandy Municipal Council.

The match winner for Seetha Devi BV was centre forward Chathuranganie Ratnayake who slammed both goals in either half giving the opponents no chance to recover.

Irshard Niyas and S. Suresh umpired. In the sem i finals Mahamaya Girls College beat Vijaya College, Matale 1 - 0 on penalty strokes and Seetha Devi BV beat Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo 1 - 0 with Chathuranganie Ratnayake doing the scoring for the winners. Seetha Devi BV's Chathurangie Ratnayake was adjudged as the Player of the tournament.

Nalanda College, Colombo became champions in the under 19 seven a side tournament for boys by defeating Christ Church College, Matale 1 - 0 on penalty strokes after the scores at the end of the regulation time stood deadlocked at in all.

M. Millinda of Nalanda Vidyalaya was adjudged the best player of this tournament.

In the tournament for men Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club 'A' edged out the Sri Lanka Navy 'B' team 1 - 0 after very close tussle in the finals to lift the championship title. At half time there was no scoring.

Centre forward Mohammed Ghazzali who was adjudged the Best Player of this tournament scored the match winning goal for Navy 'A'.

D. Jayasundera and M. Abeywickrema umpired. Mayor of Kandy Kesara Senanayake was the Chief Guest and he distributed the main awards.
