Under 23 cricket: Jayasundera match-winner by Chris Dhambarage Chilaw Marians SC put up a splendid performance as they defeated Nugegoda SC outright by an innings and 243 runs in the BCCSL under 23 Division One cricket tournament quarterfinal match concluded at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium on Sunday. Their success had great significance because they were competing in this tournament only for the second time after been promoted to the Premier Division in 2000. They piled up a massive first innings total of 546 for 7 and then bundled out their opponents for 134 and 169 respectively. Praneeth Jayasundera completed a fine all round performance claiming 4 for 54 and was supported well by Dhammika Niroshan (2 for 18) and Omesh Wijesiriwardena (3 for 41). |
