by Malwana special correspondent Today's youth are the leaders of tomorrow. Youth's role in the development of the country is indispensable. Youths should be provided with opportunities to bring out their latest talents and make them contribute their part to the development of the country. It is with these noble objectives that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe initiated youth battalion. There is no political background to this at all. The main aim of this project is to give the talented a proper status, said Minister of School Education Suranimala Rajapaksa. He was speaking as the chief guest at the certificate presentation ceremony to eighty female youths who successfully completed a six months training course in handicrafts conducted by Malwana Educational Progress Organisation (EPO) held at Al Mubarak National School auditorium in Malwana yesterday (24/08/2002) Thursday. This ceremony was presided by chairman EPO M. N. M. Irshad. The Minister further said, that countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are in the forefront in all aspects of the development in the international circuit. This is mainly due to the fact that the government gave priority to youths' role in the development activities. He also said that government intends to start another industrial park in order to create employment opportunities in Biyagama and that vocational training centre will be set up in Malwana. Biyagama PS Chairman Prasanna Sampath, PS member Abu Ameer, Chairman Malwana UNP Central Organisation M. M. Ahamed and Principal of the school I. L. M. Raheem also spoke. |
