Van hits post with high tension wires, child unhurt

by Kandy south group correspondent

Three persons including a small child travelling in a van from the direction of Gurudeniya to Kandy miraculously escaped death at least in two ways when the van crashed into a post with electric wires at Pichchamalwatte in Gurudeniya late on Sunday evening (August 25).

It is reported that at a lonely spot the driver of the van had lost control and knocked against a post carrying high tension wires breaking the post into two and the wires falling on to the road while the van turned turtle.

The people of the area and those in passing vehicles immediately pulled out the occupants from the vehicle by using leavers. One person was extricated after having the vehicle on its four wheels and breaking open the doors. The two men in the van with bleeding injuries were despatched to hospital, while the little child escaped unhurt. Talatu Oya police are conducting inquiries.
