by Ananda Kannangara A six-month comprehensive English Language course for the benefit of Sri Lankans seeking employment opportunities in countries outside the Middle East will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) from September 1 on the directive of Employment and Labour Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe. The SLBFE is expected to commence classes at their branch offices in Kalutara, Matale, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Ampara in addition to classes scheduled to be conducted in the Colombo District. "The objective of conducting these English courses is to fill a large number of vacancies, currently available in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Seychelles, Cyprus and in the Maldives with high remuneration packages, Minister Samarasinghe told the Daily News. The bureau is also expected to improve the spoken English as well as the written ability of participants on the directive of Minister Samarasinghe. Meanwhile the Bureau announced that vacancies are mostly available in houses and family apartments in addition to factories, shopping complexes, apparel industries, soft wear industries and electronic parts manufacturing companies in the said countries. The Bureau also said that when foreign vacancies are available, interested persons can apply for them through private job agencies registered with the SLBFE, so that all workers are entitled to numerous welfare facilities including the Air Tickets granted by the Bureau for migrant workers. |
