Ceylon Biscuit Group bags gold and silver Ceylon Biscuits Limited has won two awards conferred on them by the National Chamber of Exporters. Munchee Biscuits and Ritzbury Chocolates were awarded the Silver in the extra large category of the export market. CBL Impex, a fully owned subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits Limited was also awarded the gold for the value added tea segment. Lakshman de Silva, Managing Director, Ceylon Biscuits Limited said: Innovation and technical excellence is the key to every aspect of production, and standards adhered to are comparable to the best in the world. Munchee Biscuits are crisp and crunchy. A keep fresh property of their packaging ensures a longer shelf life and an oven fresh quality. As part of its innovation in product offering, Munchee launched Tiffin two years ago. This was followed by the successful new Munchee Lemon Puff in 2001, which has its own flavour, crispiness and bite. Thereafter Munchee's Super Cream Cracker was launched about three months ago," he said. Ramya Wickramasinghe, Deputy Chairman CBL said: "We manufacture our products according to the aspirations of the customer rather than merely copying foreign products. In line with this we have added vitamins in the cracker and that has been a first in the local industry. Also an unique aspect of the cracker is that it could be eaten as it is without any accompaniments". The factory at Pannipitiya has six different production lines, which has the capacity to produce around 1,000 metric tons per day. Of the production 15% is being exported to United States of America, UK, Australia, Canada, Middle East, India, New Zealand, Fiji and a host of other countries. Munchee also recently entered the Hong Kong market with Lemon Puff and Coconut Crunch. They also hope to access the Chinese market through Hong Kong.
