Will CH and FC be third time lucky?

Will CH and FC be third time lucky? The answer to this question will only be found tomorrow evening when the lads from Maitland Crescent confront the Sri Lanka Police in their Caltex Inter-club knock-out Tournament for the Clifford Cup quarter-final match at Havelock Park tomorrow.

The policemen won both matches in the 'A' Division League by beating CH by 16-15 and 12-5 and tomorrow they will go all out to make it three in-a-row by overcoming CH. CH and FC have been strengthened by the inclusion of two Fijians - NO 8 Alverte Dere and centre Timoci Vuniyawa and will be determined to topple police and enter the semi-finals.

Police's power-packed forwards have played a key role in their success and once again players of the Calibre of Wilson, Hewawasam, Chaminda Silva, Saravanan, Kulatunge and Herath should give of their best and dominate in the loose. in the set scrums CH's Sameera Wijesinghe should get the better of his vis-a-vis Chaminda Silva while the line outs should be shared between police's Wilson, Kulatunge and the CH duo of Bandara and Seneviratne.

The lads from Maitland Crescent should make maximum sue of the good ball that comes their way as they have two hard running centres in Saranga Jayakody and Fijian Timoci Vuniyawa while on the wings they will have the services of that powerful runner Yuganthera Karunaratne with full back Nalin Dissanayake joining the line to form the overlap. The teems

Police - Charaka Hewawasam, Chaminda Silva, K. Saravanan, Pradeep Wilson, S. P. Kulatunge, Susantha Kumara, T. D. Herath, Wekadapola, Sudath Sampath and Harshana Wijeweera, Ayaz Hassan, Champika Thusahra, Nilusha Fernando, Saman Ekanayake, Danushka Pubudu.

CH and FC - Sashika Cooray (Captain), Sameera Wijeyesinghe, Jayantha Ranaweera, Sanjaya Bandara, Kokum Seneviratne, Asanka Thalgularachchi, Jayan Gunatilleke, Alverte Dere, Milinda Jayasinghe and Rizan Saldin, Rukshan Wijesinghe, Timoci Vuniyawa, Saranga Jayakody, Yuganthara Karunaratne, Nalin Dissanayake.

Havelocks - Army clash tomorrow

Another close tussle for supremacy can be expected tomorrow when the high riding Sri Lanka Army confront Havelocks sports club in their Caltex Inter-club knock out for the Clifford Cup quarter-final match at Longden Place. Up front a terrific tussle for supremacy can be expected with the power-packed Army forwards Rajapakse, Udayakumara, Siriwardena, Jayasuriya, Karunaratne and Rodrigo being confronted by equally good forwards in Hassan, Jayasena, Sornaratne, Wanasinghe, Bopearachchi and Pushpakumara. However the soldiers possess a superior back division. In Naufer Rahim and Ajit Peiris they have an experienced halves combination while Knowlton, Jayatilleke, Naushad and Vijitha are hard runners who are capable of piercing the Havelocks defence.

The Havelocks have brought in Fijian Nobole Vilianne to strengthen their back division and he will play alongside Jason Jayasekera who has excelled in the last few matches with his probing runs.

Probable teams:-

Army - Chaminda Siriwardena, Y. P. Rajapakse, Udayakumara, Nishantha Jayasuriya, Sithara Fernando, Celin Rodrigo, Jeevan Gunatillake, Herathge Karunaratne, Naufer Rahim and Ajit Peiris (Captain), Mohamed Naushad, Kapila Knowlton, Vajira Jayatilleke, Nalin Vijitha, T. A. Silva.

Havelocks - Shafi Hassen, Duminda Pushpakumara, Mohamed Intikhab, Rajiv Sornaratne (Captain), Chathuranga Amerasinghe, Siva Wanasinghe, Nishantha Bopearachchi, Kavinda Jayasena, Leonard de Zilva and Tikiri Dissanayake, Pradeep Sivakantha, Nobole Vilianne, Jason Jayasekera, Ruwan Suranga, Lalindra Rodrigo (R.S.)
