by Ja-ela group correspondent

"Around twenty per cent of electricity is wasted while it is distributed said Ranjan Rodrigo, Chairman, National Engineering Research and Development Centre (NERD) at a training programme on energy efficient lighting organized by NERD at Hotel Sirimedura Seeduwa.

He said that by using various instruments a large quantity of electricity could be saved and that saving of energy could be used for development projects.

Rodrigo further said that NERD centre had launched programmes of waste proof energy efficiency and environmental management that would help the industrialists in reducing energy cost and the use of that energy saving would benefit the national development schemes. G. B. Wimalaratne, Head, Electrical Engineering, NERD said that the commonly used bulbs consume only 10 percent of energy for lighting and the balance go wasted as heat but in the case of tube lights and CFL lights consume less energy and give more light. M. W. Leelaratne, Deputy General Manager NERD also spoke.

G. B. Wimalarathna, Ms. Janaki Rupasingha, Buddhika Samarasekera, Gemunu Ranasinghe and Nayana Wijesiriwardana also spoke.
