by Malwana group correspondent "The eradication of poverty is a must for a nation to prosper and the only party capable of accomplishing that task is the UNP," said Minister of School Education Suranimala Rajapakse. e said so at the distribution of dry rations to low-income families at Gonawala in the Biyagama electorate recently. The donation was offered by Biyagama PS member Mali Maduwanthi Algama. ajapakse said that when the UNP came into power in 1977 the poor and low-income people families were able to increase their potential earnings. The Housing programme, Gamudawa and Janasaviya were launched, but the former PA government did not continue with these programs putting the poor people to a sad plight. ajapakse also said, that UNF government has restarted the poverty alleviation program discontinued by the PA government. he minister noticed that in 1994 the PA government which came into power with the promise of improving the economy of the country did not fulfil it, the economy became worse and present UNF government was taking all possible steps to bring prosperity to the people and the country and he advised the people not to be misled by the false information of the opposition. iyagama PS member Miss Mali Maduwanthi Algama also spoke. |
