Top prices for Kirkoswald teas

Kirkoswald Group, Bogowantalawa lying about 4,500 feet above sea level has been topping the prices for Dusts and Pekoes for Western High Grown and at times for the entire island according to the Weekly Market Report submitted by Forbes & Walkers Limited, who are also the tea brokers for this estate which has earned a name for producing quality teas over the years.

At the sale of August 14th this estate fetched the top price of Rs. 365 per kilogram which topped price for this grade of tea for the entire island.

At the sale of August 7th, this estate fetched two top prices of Rs. 345 and Rs. 335 for Pekoes which was the highest at this sale. A line of Dust No. 1 was sold at Rs. 200 per kilogramme which was also the highest at this sale.

At the sale of July 31st, this estate sold a line of Pekoe for Rs. 370 per kilogram which was an all time record for this grade of tea. Another line was sold for Rs. 335. At the same sale a line of Dust No. 1 was sold for Rs. 212 per kilo which topped the prices for high growns.

Next at the sale of July 24th, this estate topped the price for Pekoes by fetching Rs. 330 per kilogram. This was also the highest price for this grade of tea for the entire island. The sale of July 10th, brought for this estate a price of Rs. 320 per kilo for a line of Pekoe which once again topped the prices for this grade of tea for the island. A line of Dust No. 1 was sold for Rs. 196 which was the highest for this grade of tea at this sale.

The prices fetched by this estate consistently was not for fancy teas in small quantities, but in large quantity at normal breaks with each chest weighing over 55 kilograms and each lot comprises 20 or 40 chests.
