Time for us to pray for peace - Chief Minister

Time is ripe for all of us to pray for God to give courage and ability for the current peace-brokers to make the process an eternal reality, said SPC, Chief Minister, H.G. Sirisena at Ratgama recently.

He was addressing after he opened the new Dental Surgery at Ratgama Primary Hospital on the initiation of, SPC Health Minister I. Wijewantha and SPC member, Mohan P.G. Silva. He said the late J. R. Jayewardene, Vijaya Kumaratunga and the President Chandrika Kumaratunga too struggled hard to achieve peace. The peaceful atmosphere currently prevailing in the country is mainly due to ceasefire agreement signal between the government and that LTTE.

The CM said 'Development work done by provincial councils are also at a standstill due to curtailment of funds by the Central Government since its inception in December 2001. He said the SPC has 531 vacancies in the fields of library assistants and labourers, but the filling of these vacancies are held up due to circular instructions by the government.

The CM said, once this war ends more and more storeyed buildings with all other needs may be provided for hospitals and that is why I suggested that peace-lovers pray to God for peace, he reiterated.

He said the SPC spent rupees 35 million for the development of Ratgama Hospital since May 2001.

Provincial Health Minister I. Wijewantha, SPC members Mohan P. de Silva, Ajith Kumara, former SPC member, G. Denette, PS member S. Ariyawansa and SPC Health Director S.W. Pathinayake spoke.

Dr. Ranjit Dharmakeerthi made the vote of thanks.
