CSE listing for cluster bus companies on Sept 30

by Rajmi Manatunga

The 11 cluster bus companies proposed will be listed for trading at the Colombo Stock Exchange on September 30, the Transport Ministry announced yesterday.

The listing of the companies which was scheduled for last week was postponed owing to protests by employees unions and private bus operators. The deadline for bids has been extended till September 24.

Meanwhile, the swearing in of the newly appointed director boards of the cluster companies took place before State Transport Minister Piyasoma Upali at the Ministry premises.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Upali pointed out that the Treasury is unable to provide funds to the CTB to buy new buses in the present economic climate. Steps will be taken to repair buses which are not running.

"We should work together with trade unions and get their help to minimise corruption in the companies," he said, directing officials to hand over a progress report to him each month.

The CTB is now investigating certain allegations of financial malpractice against previous administrations of cluster bus companies.
