LTTE to release soldier

by Ranil Wijayapala

The LTTE has informed the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission that they would release the Sri Lankan soldier who has been arrested by them when entering their areas in Mullaitivu on his Guinness record establishing mission.

The soldier was attempting to establish a Guinness record by running, swimming and walking around Sri Lanka when he was captured by the LTTE. Vavuniya GA K. Ganesh told the Daily News that the arrest was due to a communication gap between Trincomalee and Mullaitivu and it was sorted out soon after communicating with the Mullaitivu GA.

Reports also said that two civilians accompanying the soldiers were also arrested and released. Deputy Head and spokesman of the SLMM Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News that the LTTE has informed them about the arrest of the soldier and informed that they will release him soon.

The LTTE has also informed the SLMM that they will also release the three civilians arrested while they were hunting east of Omanthai. However the LTTE has not informed the SLMM a date for releasing them, Haukland added.
