COLOMBO, Sunday (AFP) US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage will visit Sri Lanka later this month to see how a ceasefire between the Colombo government and Tamil Tiger rebels is progressing, foreign ministry sources said Saturday. It is believed he will be the most senior US official to visit the island in more than 20 years. US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Christina Rocca visited Sri Lanka in March, while Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe went to the United States last month. |
