Jaffna trade fair will create inter-communal harmony - Dr. Jayawardena

by Jaffna special corr.

Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena said at the opening of the Jaffna Trade Fair, that soon there will emerge a brotherhood of a business community dedicated to inter-communal harmony and everlasting peace in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The trade fair was held at Jaffna Central College. More than sixty trade and manufacturing organisations from the south displaced their products at the fair which were seen for the first time by the younger generation in Jaffna.

Dr. Jayawardene further said that the Prime Minister has fulfilled the pledges given in the MoU and paved the way for the commencement of peace talks. He had given the people of Jaffna light and driven out the dark clouds of suspicion and bitterness that engulfed the Tamils and the Sinhalese. The Security Forces have vacated the schools, temples and churches. The public library of Jaffna has been renovated and will be opened soon. The A9 highway is bustling with new vehicles and the interaction of Sinhalese and Tamils to forge communal harmony. Cohabitation has begun to take root.

The road to lasting peace is full of pits and falls. Nevertheless Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has proved his mettle in international diplomacy and won a niche in the hearts of the people of our island as a sincere and committed statesman wedded to racial tranquillity.

He said that the Tamils would and should have the same rights and opportunities as the Sinhalese. We want the people in the South to share their business expertise with their counterparts in the North.
