The Former Director of Presidential Security Division, Nihal Karunaratne and 12 others, who are suspects of an alleged conspiracy to murder Minister S.B. Dissanayake, assault on his supporters and causing damage to their vehicles at Padiyapelella, during the period of last General Election, appeared before Kandy Additional Magistrate Pradeep Hettiarachchi, on July 15. ASP Ravi Vaidyalankara of the CID, on behalf of the prosecution submitted that the Attorney General has informed that indictments have been served on the 13 accused on 18 counts and urged Court to commit the case for trial before the High Court. Accordingly, the Magistrate after commiting the case for trial before High Court, ordered the release of the accused on the previous bail and directed them to appear before the High Court, when noticed. |
