The International Junior Hockey Championship worked off in Ipoh, Malaysia recently was a historic occasion for under-15 hockey players of Nalanda College, Colombo.

They came third beating 27 teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Sri Lanka. Having won the championship in the Colombo District Inter-School Under-15 Boys Hockey Tournament in 2002, they received the invitation through the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation to take part in this International Six-a-side Hockey Tournament in Malaysia. Nalanda College entered two teams and the superb performance by their 'A' team brought them the third place recording the first such victory a Sri Lankan School Team has ever secured in an international tournament in Malaysia.

The presentation of prize money, certificates and medals to the players of the team took place on 11th of July 2002 at the college under the patronage of the Principal H.U. Prematilake.
