The three plantation trade unions which were represented at the meeting were: The Ceylon Workers' Congress, the Lanka Jathika Estates Workers' Union and the Joint Plantations Trade Union Centre, the umbrella organisation for sixteen trade unions. The proposed increase is Rs. 136 per day plus another Rs. 15 per day based on the attendance bonus for estate workers who have a minimum of 75 per cent attendance and the remainder is in the form of productivity bonus, he said. This increase is in accordance with the collective agreement that we have signed with the Regional Plantation Companies and this negotiation is due every two years, he said. The companies, neither confirmed nor rejected the proposal in detail but had wanted to consider it in detail. Director General of the Employers' Federation Gotabhaya Dissanayake said that the meeting was very cordial and that there would be a follow up meeting on July 24 aimed at finalising the details. |
