BOI agreement for knitwear to export market Dale Craft Knit (Pvt) Ltd signed an agreement with BOI to manufacture knitwear (sweaters) for the export market. The agreement was signed by Sturle Harald Pedersen, CEO Dale Craft Knit (Pvt) Ltd, and Arjun Mahendran, Chairman/Director General of the BOI. Dale of Norway, the official Olympic outfitter for the Norwegian winter Olympic team, first came to Sri Lanka in the early 1980s. Sri Lanka was one of the countries they were looking at as the British had introduced knitting to the country and this activity continues to be popular in the country. The British way of knitting consists of using separate needles. In that way the front and back have to be done separately and then joined with a seam. The traditional Scandinavian knitting method uses two needles joined with a wire. The knitter knits in circles and both the front and the back can be done at once, so that the final product will be seamless. Dale's main factory is at Kolonnawa. In addition in the 17 knitting centres under the company's purview in various parts of the island, 400 girls hand knit the entire Dale Exclusive Collection of premium woollen clothing for the European and American markets. The mother company, Dale of Norway has been granted exclusive rights to develop and offer officially licensed sweaters and accessories bearing the official Olympic emblem consisting of five rings. |
