Hockey tourney postponed

The seven-a-side hockey tournament scheduled to be played at Bandarawela has been postponed to July 6 and 7.

This decision was taken at a special meeting held at the Bandarawela Urban Council hall last Wednesday presided over by Uva Hockey Association President and Uva PC member D. Vincent Dias.

This tournament is being conducted to introduce hockey to Bandarawela. Over ten teams from Badulla, Diyatalawa and Gurutalawa are expected to participate at this tournament. Winners of this tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs. 3,000 and the runners-up will receive Rs. 2,000. Best player will receive Rs. 1,000.

Arrangements have also been made to conduct a coaching program for Physical Training Instructors attached to Bandarawela schools for the promotion of hockey in the area. A team of officials from the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and Uva Hockey Association are expected to conduct this coaching camp.

A women's exhibition hockey encounter between Yasodara MV Colombo and Uva HA President's eleven is scheduled for Saturday 6.
