by Kurunegala Central special correspondent The shortcomings of health officers in Kurunegala area is the cause for dengue spreading said the Deputy Mayor A.L.M. Gunasekara at the monthly meeting of the Kurunegala Municipal Council last Friday. Mayor of Kurunegala Nimal Chandrasiri de Silva presided. The Deputy Mayor said the population of Kurunegala town is more than 30,000. The Road Development Authority have not constructed the town drains properly. Abdul Satthar (UNF) said the PA Government never took any interest to develop the Kurunegala tank. Only the UNF Government had always worked for the interest of the tank. Waruna Premaratne U(UNF) said last week a massive dengue eradication campaign was held in Wehera, Gettuwana, Yanthampalawa, Malkaduwawa and Mallawapitiya under the guidance of Municipal members. On this day all shops and schools were closed. House to house instructions about the disease were given by the health officers. The school premises, mosques, public places and government institutions were cleaned under this campaign, he added. Gamini Peramunage (PA) and Kamal Gunasinghe (PA) also addressed the meeting.
