SLAF Chief gives statement to police

Sri Lanka Air Force Commander Air Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody has made a statement to the police last afternoon regarding the accident in which he was involved on June 15 at Borella, stating that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Contacted by the Daily News, Defence Secretary Austin Fernando said that up to last evening, the Air Force Commander has not tendered his resignation or stated that he was going to retire from the Service.

Senior officers probing the incident said under the normal procedures, any Security Forces commander has to submit resignation or retirement papers through the Defence Secretary.
