'Banking in Transition - issues and challenges' The Association of Professional Bankers (APB) will conduct its Annual Convention on the theme "Banking in Transition - Issues and Challenges" on from August 16 to 18 at the ceylon Continental Hotel. APB's annual convention has earned a name as the Banking Event of the Year and looked forward to by many in the banking and financial sector. The inaugural address at this year's convention will be delivered by Milinda Moragoda, Minister of Science, Technology and Economic Reforms while A. S. Jayawardena, Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka will deliver the Governor's speech. "This is a time where the Banking industry is going through a tremendous amount of change, so we have selected a timely and relevant theme for our technical sessions of the convention. The presentations will be made by eminent personalities who have earned a reputation both internationally and locally. This mix has been the success of our conventions," a spokesman for the APB said. "It is important that the global trends are looked at in the context of the local developments, since in the economic reforms envisaged, banking will have to play a key role. Technology component is given adequate emphasis as Banking and Technology go so closely and together," he said. Another event connected with the convention is the publication of a book consisting of articles from well-known authors on topics relating to the theme, 'Banking in Transition'.
