BOI seeks Malaysian investments

Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman, Arjuna Mahendran said that Sri Lanka was seeking Malaysian expertise to help restore the country's economy and infrastructure.

"Sri Lanka does not have a single highway to equal those in Malaysia. We need to rebuild our roads and improve our telecommunication system and Malaysia can help in a big way," Mahendran told the 'Sunday Star', a leading newspaper in Malaysia.

After 18 years of civil unrest, Sri Lanka is now set to 'open its doors' to the world to help put it on the right footing. Its authorities hope that Malaysia will be among the first to come knocking, the Sunday Star said.

Mahendran was in Malaysia last week to brief government authorities and potential investors on the latest peace process in Sri Lanka.

Assuring Malaysian investors of the present climate of stability in the island, Mahendran said that a two-day investment seminar will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia later this month.
