Bangladesh presents India with list of fugitive "terrorists" DHAKA, Friday (AFP) Bangladesh said Thursday it had presented neighbouring India a list of 20 "terrorists" it wanted handed over for trial. Foreign Minister Morshed Khan refused to give more details on who the suspects were but said he had raised the issue earlier this week in New Delhi with his counterpart Jaswant Singh. Khan said he told Singh: "We know where these terrorists are staying in India and surely their security people also know about their whereabouts." He said the issue was an impediment to ties between the countries but that his visit had strengthened bilateral relations. "I hope my visit to India has opened a new chapter of bilateral relations and I went there with an open heart," said Khan, who also visited Pakistan amid a military standoff between New Delhi and Islamabad. He said Bangladesh and India agreed on ways to manage troops on their border to stop illegal crossings from each side. It was the highest-level visit to India by a member of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's Islamist-allied coalition that swept to power in October. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance ousted Sheikh Hasina Wajed's Awami League, which is generally regarded as more pro-India. |
