Under the cooperation assistance program of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) which is the channel for providing technical cooperation by the Korean Government, a Korean expert, Rah Kwang-chan arrived in Colombo on June 19, 2002. Rah has graduated in Master of Social Science, Economic Development and Policy from the University of Birmingham, England. During his career he has rendered his expertise to the Industrial Advancement Administration (IAA), National Institute of Technology and Quality (NAITQ) and is currently attached to the Small and Medium Business Administration Institute of Korea (SMBA). Upon the request of the Government of Sri Lanka, the Republic of Korea has agreed to provide the services of Rah Kwang-chan to advise the Industrial Development Board in the promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises. During his six months tenure in Sri Lanka, Rah will mainly focus his attention on a Market Survey for identifying 10 potential Agro-based products, the problems hindering its growth and recommending appropriate development strategies. He will also concentrate on Policy Formulation for the Small and Medium Enterprises sector, with emphasis on enhancing competitiveness, improving the productivity, deciding suitable concessions and introducing modern and appropriate technology. KOICA has sent Korean experts to developing countries to share Korea's development experience and technical expertise through counselling and guidance as well as through research activities. This program is carried out as a major part of the human resources development (HRD) program for developing countries. |
