Youth leaders to be trained

by Gampaha group correspondent

We should not limit our country's leadership to a class nationality or family. Therefore steps have been taken for youth who could show their ability, self confidence, popularity to be trained and released to society. In future the most suitable will get the leadership, said Minister of Power and Energy Karu Jayasuriya.

He was speaking at the distribution of certificates to those who had completed the training course in leadership organised by the Gampaha Youth Development Foundation and sponsored by the Surya Foundation at the Gampaha Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium.

The Minister said not only among mankind, but also among animals there is leadership.

He said for a future successful life our youth should be directed on the correct path. Saliya Nanyakkara has come forward to direct it. There is no fee charged, the Surya Foundation will fund it.

He added that the people of Gampaha district are intelligent and even the national leadership is from Gampaha. In future we should do away with fighting for political leadership.

We should change our society to bring about this transformation. We should limit politics only to the election. After elections we should be able to work together.

If we look at foreign countries they have developed fast. We won our independence 53 years ago, but our standard of living is in the same poor state.

Professor Jayalath Samarasinghe of Colombo University, Verun Amaratunghe and several others also spoke.
