Qatar Airways reaffirms commitment to Sri Lanka

Qatar Airways which recently increased its flight frequency to Sri Lanka further reaffirmed their commitment to the government and the local aviation industry by opening up a brand new corporate style office in keeping with the trends and standards of their international sales and marketing offices. Chairman Delmege Forsyth Group Mr. F. G. N. Mendis said that the new Qatar Airways Sri Lankan office was designed to incorporate the exotic ambience of the Arabian Gulf, coupled with international aviation design standards. "A majority of the furniture and fittings which are reminiscent of traditional Arabic designs have been flown down and are the hallmark of the new office", he said. The new office will facilitate both passenger sales as well as cargo operations.

Described as the world's fastest growing airline, Qatar Airways is represented locally by Delmege Forsyth Tours (Pvt) Ltd., a member of the Delmege Group of Companies.

District Sales Manager Qatar Airways in Sri Lanka, Mr. Sulaiman Almaskari said that the airline's increased flight schedule resulted in them flying in to Colombo five times a week and reiterated the fact that Qatar Airways was poised to play a prominent role in local travel and aviation spheres. Mr. Almaskari went on to say that the newly launched Qatar Airways Holidays a division of the airline was yet another value addition which had proved to be extremely popular as it offers a total of 50 destinations in 32 countries, as well as attractive packages for holidays in Qatar.

The airline which has embarked on an ambitious expansion programme aims to double its fleet from 14 to 30 in the next three years, whilst increasing its total number of destinations from 35 to 50 by 2004. The airline which has witnessed continuous double growth since its relaunch in 1997, created a record in March this year when they registered a 38% increase in growth.

"While the air travel industry reeled under the impact of the post September 11 development, Qatar Airways went ahead with its expansion plans as scheduled and in fact added seven new destinations to its network" said Managing Director Delmege Airline Division, Ravi Goonetilleke, Goonetilleke also went on to say that Qatar airways had undertaken the development of the new Doha International Airport which is scheduled to open in 2006, whilst in addition they also manage their subsidiary companies which are Qatar Duty Free, Qatar Aviation Services, and Qatar Distribution Company. A brand new air catering unit is also in the pipeline and is due to be completed this month.

"With the opening of a world class office dedicated to serving the airline's customers, Qatar Airways together with the GSA, Delmege Fosyth Tours (Pvt) Ltd., is confident of establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in local aviation circles", said Goonetilleke.
