Sri Lanka in Youth Employment Summit

Worldview Sri Lanka, the National Chapter of Worldview International Foundation, with support from the Worldview international project "Mandate the Future", has been confirmed as Sri Lanka's focal point for the Youth Employment Summit (YES) to be held in Alexandria, Egypt from September 7 to 11 this year. Over 2,000 participants belonging to all sectors of society including politicians, national leaders, State and NGO representatives, corporate leaders, and most importantly youth from all walks of life will attend his historic event. It will be an action-oriented Summit focusing on developing innovative policies, practices and ideas, establishing new networks and strengthening the existing ones, and formulating plans of action to address the challenge of youth employment in the next few years.

According to Worldview Sri Lanka YES Focal Point, the mission of the Summit is to seed a civil society movement to stimulate and inspire the development of programs and policies in all countries to ensure that world's youth have access to education and training programs skills development opportunities, resources, and credit that they need to build productive and sustainable livelihoods. On this basis the YES will launch a Decade Campaign of Action so that over 500 million young adults, especially youth facing poverty, will have productive and sustainable livelihoods by the year 2012.

With the above mission in hand, Sri Lanka's Focal Point will communicate with many youth organisations and the youth themselves from many different sectors in the country to obtain their feedback and points of view as regards the youth employment problems in Sri Lanka. Very soon through mass media, opportunities will be provided to Sri Lanka's young people to communicate with the Focal Point and engage in a participatory dialogue on the vision of the Youth Employment Summit, states the Focal Point Leader Charith Missaka Wijesinghe at Worldview Sri Lanka.
