by Ranil Wijayapala Electricity consumers in the Jaffna peninsula will have an uninterrupted power supply from July with the installation of 20 MW power plant under the emergency power supply program, a Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) official in Jaffna told the Daily News yesterday. The Alsthom Company which has planed to install a 20 MW power plant in Jaffna has transported 18 generators to Jaffna on Sunday to complete their project, the official added. At present the CEB cannot provide an uninterrupted power supply to around 48,000 electricity consumers in the peninsula due to the lack of sufficient power plants. The CEB has confined power supplies to Jaffna town for 16 hours and other areas from six to 10 hours. The electricity supply to the Jaffna is now totally dependent on the 3 MW power plant of the Cool Air Company in Kankesanthurai and 3.5 MW power plant of the CEB in Chunnakam. The CEB has to restrict the electricity supply due to the damage caused to Cool Air generator during a confrontation.
