Washington imposing "Nazi" concepts on world: Castro

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Sunday (AFP)

Cuban President Fidel Castro called on the US public to halt "fanatics of war" in the US government, stating that since the September 11 terror attacks Washington has imposed "Nazi methods and concepts" upon the world.

The US people "are the only ones who can brake and put in a straitjacket the fanatics of power ... and war," Castro said in a speech to some half a million Cubans gathered in Santiago de Cuba, the country's second largest city, located some 770 kilometers (480 miles) south-east of Havana.

Castro said that Washington is beginning to run the world with "Nazi methods and concepts," as many world governments cower in silence.

It is no coincidence that at the same time "right-wing fascism is increasing its power" in several European countries, he added. This is the third consecutive Saturday Castro has criticized US policy in speeches before large crowds in Cuba. On June 1, Castro told some 400,000 Cubans at a rally in Holguin, 700 kilometers (435 miles) east of Havana, that despite calls for change from Washington his government's socialist path would continue unchanged. Earlier Castro spoke in the province of Sancti Spiritus, in central Cuba.
