Free transport service between A9 checkpoints

by Vavuniya Group correspondent P.Piyadasa

The LTTE has started a free transport service on the one kilometre stretch from the Omanthai Army checkpoint to their Puliyankulam checkpoint on the Kandy-Jaffna A9 road.

The service will allow the thousands of civilians passing these points to transport their goods between the checkpoints free of charge.

The number of civilians passing these points have increased after the reopening of this road. They travel to buy essential goods, obtain health services and visit their relatives on the other side. This service has been started to enable travellers to carry their goods between checkpoints. The civilians had to carry the bags on their shoulders on the whole 1km stretch in the past.
