India sticks to no first use of nuclear weapons

NEW DELHI, May 28 (Reuters) - Indian External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh said on Tuesday New Delhi was sticking to its policy of no first use of nuclear weapons.

"India has not ever spoken about nuclear weapons. Its policy is clear, unambiguous and explicit," he told a news conference. "It's no first use that remains the country's policy."

Singh was speaking just hours after Pakistan fired the last in a series of missile tests amid fears of war between nuclear rivals India and Pakistan.

War fears have grown since a deadly attack on an army camp in Kashmir this month. The two countries have massed a million men along their borders in their latest row over contested Kashmir, since an attack on India's parliament in December that New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-based Islamic militants.
