Annual VB finals from today

The finals of the 21st Annual Volleyball Championships organised by the National Youth Services Council and Rupavahini Corporation will be held today from 1.30 p.m. at the NYSC Courts, Maharagama.

Last year's finalist Sri Lanka Ports Authority teams, men and women and Sri Lanka Air Force, men and women have qualified to play in the finals this year too.

Both men and women teams from the Ports Authority carried away the championships trophies last year.

SLPA men's team is led by S. A. Ravindra Melshan while the women's team is skippered by D. K. Anusha Deepani.

Air Force men's team is led by P. P. F. de Silva while the Airwomen are led by D. T. S. Hewage. In addition to the Rupavahini Challenge Trophy there will be special awards for Best Player, Best Skipper and Best Passer and Best Defender in both categories.

The chief guests will be Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Johnston Fernando, Imitiaz Bakeer Markar, Minister of Information, Chairman of the Rupavahini Corporation, Dhammika Ganganath Dissanayake, Director General, Rupavahini Corporation, Nimal Laxhapathiarachchi and Chairman of NYSC, Sunil Jayaweera.
