Army explains vacation of buildings in Jaffna

The Sri Lanka Army has already vacated 13 out of the 25 schools they were occupying in the Jaffna peninsula, and are hoping to vacate the remaining 12 schools by mid June. "We have already vacated almost all religious places. We are still occupying 20 government buildings that too we hope to vacate before September," a senior Army official told the 'Daily News'.

Explaining as to what caused the delay in vacating these buildings he said: "We have set priorities in vacating places. Schools and religious places top our list. Our troops need a shelter to stay once they leave these camps. We are hoping to put up temporary camps in the abandoned houses and in the bare lands in the peninsula", he further added.
