Port Development and Shipping Development Minister Rauf Hakeem has instructed the Sri Lanka Shipping Corporation to provide the basic infrastructure facilities immediately to begin a passenger shipping service between Colombo and Tuticorin. The decision was taken by Port Development and Shipping Development Minister and Indian Central Government Shipping Minister Prakash Goyal when they met to discuss about launching of a passenger shipping service between Sri Lanka and India in New Delhi last week. Ministry Secretary W. A. S. Perera has already instructed the respective officials of the Sri Lanka Port Authority and other relevant departments including Emigration and Immigration, Customs, Health and Security Divisions to enhance their services to make this a success. Ministers Goyal and Hakeem are expected to participate in the launching ceremony of the Colombo - Tuticorin passenger service, the SLPA press release stated. Mr. Perera will lead an official delegation to meet his Indian counterpart in New Delhi soon to finalise the project, the release said. |
