by Jayantha Sri Nissanka Agriculture, Livestock and Samurdhi Minister S.B.Dissanayake yesterday appeared before the Commission to investigate Bribery and Corruption to give a statement on his newly constructed house at Haguranketha. Director General of the Commission Piyasena Ranasinghe told the Daily News that Minister Dissanayake appeared before the Commission at 9.30 am yesterday and was questioned for more than two hours. "The Minister came with his lawyers," Mr.Ranasinghe added. He declined to disclose further information. The Minister had reportedly given a statement regarding his house at Hanguranketha on a complaint made against him during the last General Election that he had accumulated assets in an unlawful manner. Sources close to the Minister said the Minister had told the Commission that he can provide all details on how he built his new house. Minister Dissanayake appeared before the Bribery Commission on an earlier occasion too on a complaint that he had misused Samurdhi Funds. But the Commission was unable to find any evidence to this effect. |
