Islamic financial operations reviewed

A delegation from Thailand comprising Members of Parliament, members of the judiciary and professionals visited Sri Lanka recently on a business and study tour. The visit was facilitated by the Ministry of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Sri Lanka-Thailand Business Council under the auspices of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo.

A review of Sri Lanka's Islamic financial operations ranked high on the study program undertaken by the visiting delegation. The delegates visited the head office of Amana Investments Limited (AIL), a provider of Islamic financial services in the country.

Sri Lanka's experience in Islamic finance and Takaful figured prominently in discussions between members of the delegation and AIL officials. The talks also focused on the need to establish areas of business cooperation between Sri Lanka and Thailand using Islamic financing techniques.
