'CNCI achiever of industrial excellence'

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) is the pioneer Industrial Chamber in Sri Lanka established in 1960 and incorporated by Act No. 10 of 1969, a press release from the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries said.

As the private sector has been identified ss the 'Engine of Growth', our main objective is to promote industrial growth, cooperate and coordinate with the government in the attainment of same, by contributing in a significant manner and promoting and fostering an environment conducive to carry out industrial activity.

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries being recognised as the 'Voice of Industry' and in keeping with its objectives deemed it fit to honour and reward industrialists and businessmen who have contributed to the development of industry.

With this in mind the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries for the first time in its history is holding an 'Awards Ceremony'. This being a prestigious event in the Chamber is unique not only for the Chamber but for Sri Lanka as well. This is the first time that an event of this magnitude is being held in Sri Lanka.

This unique event is not confined to Sri Lanka only, but is also open to all countries in the SAARC region. The umbrella associations of the SAARC counties will nominate an outstanding industrialist/businessman who has contributed to the development of industry in the respective SAARC country.

The awards are categorised as follows:

Sri Lankan National Award - Four categories - Large, Medium, Small and Micro. For each category there will be a gold, silver, bronze and two merit awards.

Provincial Award - Three categories - Medium, Small and Micro. For each category there will be a gold, silver, bronze and two merit awards.

Outstanding applications for the 'Provincial Award' will also be considered for the 'Sri Lankan National Award'.

SAARC country award - A gold award for the winner in each SAARC country in the Large or Medium category. The winner will be nominated by the respective Federation/Association in each country in the SAARC region.

Special award - Sri Lankan industry operating in SAARC country award - To recognise and honour Sri Lankans who are doing Sri Lanka proud in the SAARC region, there is a special award for Sri Lankan operating businesses in countries in the SAARC region. A company having Sri Lankan majority (over 50 per cent) ownership and having a Sri Lankan either as its Chief Executive Officer or General Manager, for a greater part of the relevant accounting period is eligible to apply.

A panel of judges nominated by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries will evaluate and select the winners. Short listed applicants will be visited and audited by auditors nominated for this purpose.

The awards ceremony, business and social event will be held on July 19 at the Ceylon Continental Hotel. This would be the day the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries recognises and honours the "CNCI Achiever of Industrial Excellence".

Entries are being received from all over Sri Lanka and the SAARC countries. To date over 350 applications have been received. Nominees from countries in the SAARC regions have already been received.

To create an atmosphere for building better business relationships within countries in the SAARC region, the winner from each country is invited to come with a business delegation. This will give an opportunity for the delegates to interact with counterparts in other countries in the SAARC region. One-to-one meetings have been arranged at the hotel the day following the awards ceremony.

Reservations have been made by the visiting delegations at the Ceylon Continental Hotel, the official hotel.
