Baddegana Sanjeewa's father taken in

by Sarath Malalasekera

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigating the attack on the UNP 1999 election rally in Maradana junction where UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe presided, on Tuesday took into custody the father of former PSD man Baddegana Sanjeewa.

Investigators recovered 22 chairs and several other items from the possession of Baddegana Sanjeewa's father's house. These items were on the UNP stage in Maradana on the day of the last election meeting in 1999.

Investigations revealed that Baddegana Sanjeewa had been involved in several killings which took place during the last regime, the investigators said.
