FTA opens doors for CEAT tyres to India MD

The New Managing Director of CEAT-Kelani Associated Holdings (Pvt) Limited, Ramesh Ramanathan said the time is absolutely right for growth of CEAT in the domestic market to a commanding position. "The Free Trade Agreement (with India has opened the door of the vast Indian market for CEAT tyres produced in Sri Lanka, thereby providing the company with an opportunity to grow the export market as well," he said.

"The tyre industry has been rightly classified as a thrust industry in Sri Lanka. It will be my endeavour to use this impetus and contribute to the industrial development of the country through the growth of our company," Mr. Ramanathan said.

He said that CEAT India has already contributed substantially to the enhancement of the quality of the company's locally manufactured products. "Our objective is to offer international quality at very competitive prices in the domestic market," he said, adding that his own experience combined with the technology back-up of CEAT and the guidance and support of the Board of Directors would help the company grow aggressively during the current year.

Mr. Ramanathan was appointed as the company's new Managing Director from May 1. Mr. Ramanathan succeeds V. Sekhar who will return to the RPG Group, CEAT's parent company, to head another venture.

Mr. Ramanathan brings with him more than 25 years of experience in industries as varied as Paints, Surface Textures, Resorts and Hotels and the fast growing Internet arena. He has served as a CEO for more than six years.
