Naval trio held in shooting incident

The Kuchchaveli Police have taken into custody one Sub Lieutenant and two sailors on suspicion in connection with an alleged shooting incident at Nilaveli.

This incident occurred on April 28 night where a woman living about 500 meters away from the Navy camp at Nilaveli received a gun shot injury.

According to the Navy the suspects who were on duty have fired at a wild buffalo which came their way.

People in the area having recovered two empty T 56 ammo shells in the adjoining coconut land of the victim have handed it over to police. The suspects were produced before the Trincomalee magistrate and were released on personal bail in Rs. 25,000.00 each.

Inspector Travin Ludewyke OIC, Kuchchaveli Police informed court that the matter has to be forwarded to the Attorney General for necessary instructions. The suspects were directed to appear before court on September 6.
