Pakistan building collapse kills eight, injures 32 ISLAMABAD, May 6 (Reuters) - Eight children were killed and 32 other people injured when a mud-brick house in the Pakistani city of Sukkur collapsed as dinner was being prepared for a religious gathering, a hospital official said on Monday. The people had met on Sunday to celebrate the birth of a boy when the roof of the two-storey house caved in. Seven children were burnt alive after the collapse sparked a fire in the kitchen, while another died later in hospital, he added. "We have discharged 17 wounded people," Dr Khalid Sheikh, superintendent of Sukkur Civil Hospital, told Reuters. Most of the injured were girls aged 12 to 14, he said, adding that the reason for the building's collapse was not known. Sukkur is located around 400 km (250 miles) north of the southern port city of Karachi in Sindh province. |
