There is good news for rugby fans from the hill capital as Kandy Youths will be participating in the current year's Caltex 'A' Division rugby tournament as they have found a sponsor in Singer Sri Lanka (Pvt) Limited.

Singer Sri Lanka have agreed to sponsor Kandy Youths for a sum of Rs. 500,000 for the current season and this was disclosed by the President of the Kandy Youths Sports Club Janaka Pathirana at a press briefing.

This sponsorship was agreed only last morning through the kind mediation of sports benefactor and UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema who was keen that Kandy Youths should not be allowed to die a natural death.

Janaka Pathirana said that the Chairman of Singer Sri Lanka Hemaka Amarasuriya in a very magnanimous gesture had agreed to sponsor Kandy Youths for a sum of Rs. 500,000 for the current season and he praised all officials like Deputy General Manager Asitha Abeysekera and Marketing Manager Sanjaya Karunaratne who helped them to get this sponsorship.

Janaka Pathirana said if Singer had not come to their rescue, they may even have had to call it a day as they did not have the funds to play matches and their avenue of income is virtually zero. Singer has also helped Kandy cricket by sponsoring the inter-club cricket tournament.

Kandy Youths who missed their opening match against the Sri Lanka Army in Colombo yesterday will now open their season with a match against CH & FC at Nittawela this Saturday.
