Police ladies soccer team on peace tour to Germany

The Sri Lanka Police Ladies Football Team will embark to a 7 weeks-German Tour while playing a series of 17 matches against German Police and Club sites.

The tour has been organised by Asian German Sports Exchange Program AGSEP with the blessings of the Minister of Sports and the FFSL. Especially in view of the ongoing Pece Process the Ladies Football team will extend invitations to all 17 German Football Sites to join hands and to play at least one match in the northern areas, yet indicated as "uncleared areas".

AGSEP this year launched a massive exchange program specially focussing on supporting the Peace Process by means of bringing people together through sports. AGSEP already got the blessings from Bernard Goonatilleke, who is the Head of the Monitoring Peace Mission under the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and the Minister of Defence, Thilak Marapona who met Dietmar Doering prior to his visit to the North where a meeting with the LTTE Hierarchy took place in Kilinochchi.

Apart from the Police Team AGSEP already sent the Sri Lanka Table Tennis (Veterans) team to Germany on 21.04.2002 and is expected today.

SriLankan Airlines Badminton team left for Germany on 5.05 - a Junior Table Tennis team from Kandy, Kurunegala and Colombo will be in Germany from 04.06. to 24.06. and in September the Sri Lanka Army Football Team, a Junior Football team from Wennappuwa and the National Handball Team of Sri Lanka will travel to Germany under the same aegis:
